Brett Chosewood
Alto, GA

Teacher, Tutor, Lifelong Learner

Hello! My name is Brett Chosewood, and I am an English and Language Arts teacher from Georgia in the United States. I have taught both locally and abroad (in countries such as China, Dubai, and Mexico) for over twelve years. In addition, I also have extensive experience in writing, editing, and communication. My education includes a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Education (Teaching), both obtained from Piedmont College. I am also currently pursuing a PhD in English Composition from Old Dominion University. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to work with students to meet their individual needs. Each student is unique, and I truly love helping my students achieve their goals. I want to be a valuable resource in the lives of those I help, using my experience as a student and as a teacher. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing my students succeed. They teach me as much as I teach them. My style of teaching involves building a strong rapport with my students, determining their individual needs, and tailoring my sessions with them to meet those needs. I try to get feedback from and assess students regularly to ensure they are understanding lesson concepts and progressing appropriately. My greatest accomplishment was developing the entire English curriculum for a high school in Sichuan, China. I taught there for a year, and when I began my job, there was no curriculum. I assessed the needs of the students, developed the curriculum for ESL and Literature, and set appropriate bench parts. The result was that all students saw a significant increase in their TOEFL scores. My desire is to bring the same effort and success to your students!

Katina Garcia Hermida
San Juan, Puerto Rico

Enthusiastic and Passionate SAT Reading Tutor :)

I have been an SAT Reading tutor for over three years. I received formal training from one of the most well-known SAT tutoring companies in Puerto Rico. Before becoming an SAT tutor, I was a high school English teacher for five years. I have a Master's Degree in Special Education from Relay Graduate School of Education which means I am an expert at identifying students' specific needs and creating an individualized program for each and every one of them. I also have a Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico, which means that my reading and writing skills are very advanced. Most of my students raise their scores about 100 points from where they started. Unlike most SAT tutors, instead of strictly teaching multiple choice strategies, I begin with teaching students effective reading skills that correspond to the level they are at, no matter how low or how high. This is necessary for students to have a strong base and boost their confidence. I use my skills as a special education teacher in my SAT tutoring sessions to teach students how to comprehend a text even when their reading level is below average. I have helped multiple students that began with a score in the low 400s reach the 600s. With my advanced students, most of those that start in the 600s reach the 700s if they are motivated and committed. I strongly believe that no matter a student's reading level, if they have the motivation, they can excel. The multiple choice strategies I teach are proven to be highly effective. I myself used them in my bar exam and was very successful. I often share this with my students so that they can relate to me. I genuinely enjoy working with high schoolers. I pride myself in developing good relationships with my students. It’s an honor to support students in what is a very stressful time for them. They have so much pressure and weight on their shoulders, which is why I focus on supporting them to develop confidence in themselves and their abilities.
